# Here are some snaps of Louisville at Dawn

The only thing worth writing about this was a realization most people have periodically. And then promptly forget. At least I do. The first time it happened was on the White Mountain just west of Death Valley. It was dusk and I could see the Agaziz or Palisade glacier up in the High Sierra. 

I was in graduate school then for whatever, and had read a book critiquing basically everything about technological society, how it was destroying the earth with its inexorable instrumental reason. I looked at that glacier as the sun was setting behind it, with some appropriate classical music playing, and just wept uncontrollably. Well, I've accepted it in the meantime. Whatever it is.

The future is not written in the stars, you have to pretend that it won't be a disaster, because that's as much a cast of mind as it is any precise prediction. All of this is to say that when I watched the sun rise in Louisville that morning it occurred to me that it was absurd to be sad, when you get to be alive to witness something like this. And it wasn't a special sunrise. It was just a sunrise, like any other.
