Tidbit
'They' say 'you can't go home again'. That is true, in a certain sense, as it pertains to 'outsiders'. That is untrue, in the sense of 'insiders'. But there are just a very few of the latter – the family, a few others – and a great many of the former. And so, why not be thankful for the few outside the family, who are still around, who still remember the way things were. But 12 years is a long time, and when you've been floundering around in what you thought was 'the muck', you come to realize, upon surfacing, that it wasn't filthy at all. In fact, it turns out it was a great big sea, filled with surprisingly pure waters. And so, having breathed what you thought was going to be fresh air, you realize that the air up here is just a little dirtier than you imagined, the many old yet new animals unfamiliar. But this is not a sad thing. Rather it is a confirmation of 'error'. The valuation was made under duress many years ago, but it was true in it's own way. So, why not return to that ocean after all? It was where you truly belonged all along anyway. And so you take a deep breath, and you dive, to swim along in your own way. A little more disappointed maybe at what you found up there, but a long time had passed and it was unrealistic and maybe a bit odd to think that it could have been any other way. So why not part without enmity. No, it is right and just and harmonious for all. Swim away again, little fish. Follow your nose not through the muck, but through the ocean blue. Where the sunlight dances with the waves, where new and yet undiscovered coves and seashores and kelp beds and any number of things underwater still yet undiscovered and secret lie ahead. And so it's a nice adventure and who says returning to the surface won't happen again? Of course it will, but not for a little while yet. We got used to the waters in these strange and solitary climes and that is where we really belong. So to each his own and, to say it again in a different way, departure is sweet under conditions of reacquaintance and shared memories and other happy things that overfill the heart. And so you swim, with tears of happiness, for a long while yet. For a long while!
