And the authors may be bourgeois bohemians or hard-nosed Protestant businessmen. They pair a ‘sense of style and good taste’ with ‘habits of waste.’ They are often among the best credentialed.
They are predictable. They are boring. When not otherwise occupied, Herr Klamm occasionally screws up his eyes at them.

Among other pastimes, some of them fuck children, or at least don’t care if one of their high toned bros fucks children in their proximity. As one does – in rarified air. Now, the vast majority probably fuck adults exclusively. For instance, some say 50,000 Americans die prematurely because health is just another commodity. That’s a lot of fuckin’ just there!

As for America’s ‘Near Abroad’, that is to say the planet – 800 bases helped keep Vietnam, Iraq and Iran American. Oh, that’s right; they lost all those dopey wars. Or was Vietnam ‘a tie’?

There is a continuity from the closing of the frontier to the conquest of Hawaii to the fracaso fresca in Iran. America is fundamentally a Philistine commercial nation.

If it ever was a martial nation – it excelled at killing 'savages', less well-performing against crack Waffen SS units, or peasant insurgents for that matter – it no longer is today. That much is sure.

The young have their spectacle rectangle and little else to look forward to. They need to go to bed hungry for a couple years – a clarifying experience. Only the Depression rejuvenated American Democracy, replacing rank individualism with solidarity. Uh, doy. So, we hope for 'the worst'.

And so, the chickens came home to roost. We all watched an entire urban conglomeration housing 2 million human beings turned into a moonscape. Every day. The same thing. This was applauded by leading liberals at the time. It is defended still today, although in fewer quarters and with waning vigor with each passing day. We watched the successor regime even try to resettle a few young people to a concentration camp, down in an adjoining imperial realm.

That the liberal elite couldn’t abide – a Republican was doing it, after all. No such Senate Democratic yelps about Guantanamo Bay – another American-sponsored rip-off cum concentration camp.

But when it comes to killin’ Saracen kids, the Last Empire consensus rules. American legislators fellate via applause an overbearing Polish-Philadelphian as he lectures his victims about morality. ‘You can’t eat enough, to vomit enough’.

It’s just the latest blase destruction of yet another native population. This is a feature not a bug of Western Civilisation, to employ the parlance of our degenerate technological age.

Gaza is shocking, but not surprising if you have a passing familiarity with the Dirty Wars of the 1970’s and 1980’s in Central and South America. We remember Thatcher bestie Augusto Pinochet’s Operation Condor, Rios Montt and Plan Victoria 82 in Guatemala, Roberto ‘Blowtorch Bob’ D’Aubuisson Arietta and the Latin Einsatzgruppen in El Salvador. There is little a red-blooded American loves more than obsessing over the genital comings and goings of strangers.
